favorites

i'm not really much into movies but i remember this one messed me up when i saw it, which is what i want if i'm going to take the time to see a movie, i want it to affect me. and this one did. to me it's about the pursuit of perfection, and how that can get into your head. i can relate to that. eventually she comes to find the only way to achieve perfection is through death. at least that's how i interpreted it. anyway i was captivated the whole way through. one of those films where you don't know what's real and what's not, you don't know what to believe. but isn't that the case in real life? it's dark and definitely sketchy at times, but it's still real. also, mila kunis and natalie portman certainly don't hurt the film either. but yeah, as far as favorite films go, "black swan" is it at this point in time.

so it's supposed to be a favorite song, which is really hard to do, because i've always thought songs are just pieces of the whole of the album. anyway ill try and choose one representative of the whole thing. it'll be "joshua". representative because of this: they're playing ridiculously fast (faster than any metal i've ever heard) yet its still way light and smooth. the communication between the musicians is happening. they're subtle on every song yet incredibly intense. and the way the whole package comes together, every aspect of everything is working towards the same thing. it's all just so hip. even 50, 60 years later. so yeah. i've been listening to this song and album for a good two years now and its still fresh. to pick one album/song as a favorite is impossible, it's always changing, but right now, this is where it's at for me.
